It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I believe this is my favorite car to drive. The experience is energizing, yet it’s quite a practical car if you take a step back from how it engages the senses. It’s this mix that makes it easy to live with and not only take for an occasional drive. With this said it’s not hard to see why i wouldn’t want to ruin it with any modifications that would upset this balance.
Of course we are always open to modifications that would further benefit these traits. How would you characterize the philosophy of the car then? For clarification that would be my intended philosophy for the car.
Philosophy for the car: To put it simple enough, I want it close to original with light modifications that make it easier to drive or more reliable. With that said of course I wouldn’t want to make it boring either. I do love a car that makes a the right noises and feels alert to drive, but it can’t make you tired when you drive it. If I try to pin it down I would say a sensible car on the edge of sensible is what we are aiming for.
Modifications currently on the list: It’s a driving and running car that’s proven quite reliable, and I wouldn’t want to upset that with a long list of modifications. In this philosophy of improvement and driving we only have small projects on the to do list. For this season we are going to change the front chocks and springs, and the master brake cylinder. We will be using slightly stiffer springs in the front and raising it closer to original. Since its inside and try we might also do some rust protection under the car, but all in all, we are looking to protect and preserve rather than changing the character of the car.
Time frame for project: I hate having running and driving cars parked, which puts this project in the priority category and we aim to have it running before the season starts.
I guess that one day when there are less non running projects in the garage Petronella will receive a paint job as well, but for the moment she will wear the patina and hide in the garage when the weather is cruel to her. Until then she will be restored from the inside out with dependability in mind.
